Why is Racial Equality Important?

Racial equality means everyone gets a fair shot, regardless of the color of their skin. It's foundational to the promise of democracy — that all people are treated equally under the law, have equal access to opportunity, and are judged by their character and actions, not their race. Progress on this front has never been automatic; it has taken generations of struggle to close gaps in voting rights, education, housing, and justice. Protecting racial equality means defending those gains and continuing to close the gaps that remain.

What Can I Do?

Educate yourself on the history and ongoing effects of racial inequality in your community. Support policies and candidates committed to equal opportunity in education, housing, and criminal justice. Speak up when you witness discrimination, and hold institutions accountable for equal treatment. Support minority-owned businesses and organizations doing the work. Equality isn't achieved once — it has to be maintained by every generation.
